Ramona's Ordination

Zion's own Ramona Hayes was ordained at Zion Lutheran Church on Friday, June 24th at 7:30 p.m. Ramona has been called to serve Pollock Lutheran Church, Pollock, South Dakota and Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid, South Dakota.

Bishop David Zellmer from the South Dakota Synod delivered the sermon and presided over the Ordination Ceremony. Zion's pastor, Kent Wilson, presided over Communion and other portions of the service.

The service itself will included both traditional hymns led by the organ and contemporary music led by the praise team.

Roughly a dozen clergy participated in the laying on of hands during the ordination ceremony.

The path to Ordination in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America involves a candidate with a sense of call to ordained ministry (Ramona), a sponsoring congregation (Zion), a bachelor's degree, a candidacy committtee, a seminary (Trinity Lutheran, Columbus, OH), three years of theological studies at seminary, one summer of clinical pastoral education (usually in a hospital), two years of very part-time assistance/experience in a local congregation during seminary, one intense year of full-time work in a congregation under the supervision of an experienced pastor (Ascension Lutheran, Columbus, OH), approval by the candidacy committee, assignment to a region and synod in the ELCA (Region 3, South Dakota Synod), and, ultimately, a call from a congregation(s) to serve as pastor.

Ramona can be reached by e-mail at: Mail, for the time being, can be sent to her attention at Pollock Lutheran Church, PO Boxx 157, Pollock, South Dakota, 57648.

Congratulations and Blessings Ramona!
